about.
Hello,
My name is Mckinley Devilbiss. I am a musician, audio engineer, and educator living in Myrtle Beach, SC. I am currently a teaching associate in the Masters of Music Technology program at Coastal Carolina University and have a huge passion for mixing audio as well as helping bring an artist’s vision to life. I believe the point of music is to help tell a story and share emotions in ways that words alone cannot. My focus is to help craft a song to tell that story in the best way it can.
My experience includes over 20 years of playing bass guitar, upright bass, guitar, and drums in a multitude of styles. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in performance and a Master of Arts in Music Technology. During my undergraduate degree at Coastal Carolina University I played in a small group jazz band that received a DownBeat Student Music Award, performed at Montreux, Umbria and Vienne jazz festivals in Europe, and performed with artists such as Howard Levy, Victor Wooten, Jeff Coffin & Steve Bailey. Outside of my experience at CCU, I have performed in bands that have opened for The Wailers, Badfish, Ballyhoo!, Passafire, and Lalah Hathaway. I have worked as an audio engineer recording and mixing audio, and running live sound for over 15 years. I feel that this combined experience of being on “both sides of the glass” allows me to work and communicate well with musicians. My goal is to help artists reach their sonic goals or “make their mark” to the best of my ability.
